The second mode of the melodic minor scale could be called the “phrygidorian” mode.

You might feel a little cold when listening to this scale.

Seriously though, you notice that it is just like the phrygian scale in it’s lower half and just like the dorian in the upper.

I have seen this scale referred to as Phrygian nattural sixth and Dorian flat second as wel as javanese.

The scale has the darkness of the Phrygian counter balanced by the more jazzy and playful aspect borrowed from the Dorian.
