Dorian is a Minor Mode. It differs from the natural minor in that it has a natural rather than a flat sixth.

C Dorian has the same notes as the Major Scale in the key of Bb.

This scale produces a jazzy and spooky sound which is a great alternative to the natural minor over minor chord changes.

Carlos Santana favors the Dorian mode and has used it to great effect in the song “Black Magic Woman” and many others.

String players notice the giant parralel bars that exist on the 8th and 10th fret.
As always, mix it up and play them every different way with diads, traids arpeggios and chords that you have no idea what the heck.
