This scale, the 6th mode generated from the Harmonic Minore Scale is known to some as the Aeolian harmonic scale.

This scale is full of strangeness and in my mind most closely resembles the Lydian Mode, except for it’s sharp 2nd, which is the same as having a flat and a natural third.

This creates an interstting tonal ambiguity. Like many of the modes of the harmonic minor scale, it has a slightly arabic or Egyptian feel.

Notice that after it’s bizarre first five notes, it ends up like a major scale on top.

Use this scale when your are going for something wierd and different!
