The 3rd mode of the Harmonic Minor Scale is refferred to by some as the Ionian Augmented for obvious reasons.

As you can easily see it shares all of the notes of the Major scale except for it’s sharp firth.

This one tonal variation gives this scale an Arabic or perhaps Egyptian sound.

Use this as a variation on major scale themes to throw a curve ball into an other wise
ordinary situation.

Beware of the sharp five as it will almost certainly have to be used as a passing tone.

You don’t want to end up sticking out in the wrong place, so remember to resolve.
