Scales of the World
Menu
The Taishikicho scale comes to us from Japan. It contains all the intervals of the major scale as well as a flat fifth and a flat seventh.
This scale has a playful almost chromatic feel, and can be used widely as long as one takes care with the flat fifth and flat seventh depending on the tonal context.
Composing with the Taishikicho scale can result in anything from chaotic and disorienting, to lush and orchestral.
The great Brian Eno explored the world of Japanese music, instruments and scales in his 2000 album Music for Onmyo_Ji.
Brian Eno has been an influential and profound force in creative modern music for several decades. He recently produced and contributed to Paul Simon’s newest album.
