This scale is another that comes to us from Japan. We’ll call it Kumoi natural 2nd, since that is the only variation from the Kumoi scale we looked at earlier.

This scale is also realted to the P’yongio scale, differing only in that it lacks the seventh tone of the P’yongio.

The Kumoi natural 2nd has a characteristically Eastern sound. It is sparse and open, the major second giving a it a feel of resolve.

The flat sixth brings an element of sadness and confirms it’s Eastern sound.

Try this in variation with the scales mentioned above.
