The 5th mode generated from the melodic minor is a variation on the Mixolydian mode, differing in that it has a flat sixth.
This scale is used frequently in the traditional and folk music of Algeria, where it is called the Nava scale.
I have also seen it called the Hindustani scale and or Mixolydian flat sixth.
The flat sixth and seventh lend a dark and serious aspect to a scale which is otherwise happy, jazzy and joyful.
Use this scale back and forth with the mixolydian for an interesting effect.
