The Mixolydian Mode is a Major Mode. It Differs from the Major Scale in that is has a flattened  seventh note. C Mixolydian has all the same notes as the major scale in the key of F.

Mixolydian produces a very pleasant and resolving sound which is also jazzy. It is not as plain as the major scale, but not quite as weird and off as the Lydian Mode.

It may conjure an image of a sunny day at a Grateful Dead show.

Watch out for possible flashbacks.

Because it is so agreeable tonally and because of it’s slightly jazzy feel, it is one of the most commonly used scales in jazz and rock improvisation.

Although this scale obviously used by too many great players to mention, we will note that Jerry Garcia made extensive use of this happy scale on his exploratory journeys.
